We are two families planning a break from 11th to 18th April and ideally we require one large
or two smaller villas close to each other. There will probably be 16 people travelling (all adults) from 30 to 56 yrs old. Silver or lisbon areas preferred. Can you help???

Dear Terry,
I'm sure that we can help - although with so many of you traveling you will probably be looking at two medium size villas rather than just the one large one.
The following three villas are quite close to each other (under 5 minutes walk) and have large enough living areas, gardens and swimming pools that if you wanted to get together in just the one villa during the day you could do so very comfortably. Obviously you would only need to rent two of the three.

Any other combination of two villas that could accommodate 16 people would require more than a 10 minute walk which I assume to be undesirable.
Please just let me know if you have any questions.
Kind regards
Richard

I would have one villa. The hunting season is 7 months long in Portugal and walking between sites with hunters who feel they own the countryside taking pot shots at your children is no fun (for you anyway).
Avoid country areas …, go for gated communities …

John,
That's an interesting comment. It sounds like you've had a negative experience of staying in the countryside.
Much of the area around the Obidos lagoon is residential, and especially so close to the beaches, and in such areas shooting would not be permitted.
We've lived in Portugal for 23 years now, and our first home in Caldas da Rainha was very much outside of town and surrounded by fields. We regularly experienced the sounds of the wild west as hunters took potshots at everything that moved.
The laws regarding how close to residential property you were allowed to shoot were casually ignored back then and we pointed out the law to a few of our gun toting neighbours.
I've not encountered anything like that in the last ten years in the area of Obidos / Caldas, as the law is much better enforced nowadays, and if I did encounter anyone shooting within 50 metres of a residence I'd certainly complain to the police.
You are right though, a gated community like the golf resort of Praia del Rey, which is where Richard was suggesting they take 2 properties, is not likely to have any hunters roaming around taking pot shots.
There will not be many single properties available that will comfortably accommodate 16 people.
Regards,
David.
