PRISONERS LEARN TO MAKE WINE IN PORTUGAL

Inmates of Leiria's old ‘Prison-School' were given a week out of the ordinary by making the most of their time behind bars to learn a new skill, in this instance, winemaking.
Situated amongst grape vines, the land surrounding the prison was last week filled with younger inmates, who were taught techniques and tips to make quality wine.
Their produce will be put on sale as part of a short-term project.
A collective goal is to develop a brand and market a wine produced by prisoners using the establishment's vineyards, for which a project has been outlined and awaits approval.
The land is already used to produce some 30 thousand litres of wine that is sold on a national scale.
It is the inmate's intention to improve the quality of that wine.
