The first annual report of the newly merged Customs and Immigration Service showed that previously the tendency had been for the class A drug to be imported via the UK, while the majority of cannabis came in via France.

However, that trend changed last year with the major source being Portugal. There was also evidence of more drugs being imported from eastern Europe.

A further £200,000 worth of drugs, mainly consisting of ecstasy, was seized as a result of importation from Poland, with one seizure from Latvia.
