THE LIGHTS GO OUT IN LISBON

Lisbon's festive illuminations fell victim to the storms of yesterday.
The Christmas lights in the Baixa district were wiped out as a consequenc of the severe weather which has been lashing the country for the past few days.
Planes were diverted from Lisbon's airport at the peak of the storms and train services throughout the country came to a grinding halt.
Fallen trees and flying roof tiles were a common sight.
The Met Office has suggested a better day for today but a return of the stormy conditions for tomorrow especially in the north and central regions.
