PORTUGUESE HOMELESS SQUAD QUITS SUB-STANDARD ACCOMMODATION

The accommodation in question is a hostel at a Cape Town high school, whose facilities Portugal’s homeless footballers say are inadequate, and fail to provide “minimum standards of comfort and hygiene”.
In total, two hundred people were to be lodged at the school during the tournament, but will now lose the Portuguese team of eight players and members of the national committee.
The Trafalgar High School, instrumental in fighting Apart heid, is, along with two other venues also located in the legendary District Six area, hosting the 48 teams participating in the tournament that ends this Saturday.
After a night’s rest at a nearby hotel, the Portuguese athletes took the field on Monday, beating the hostel-bound Sweden 10-1.
