Jazz in August at Gulbenkian
Hora: 03-08-2006
Jazz returns In August to the Gulbenkian Foundation gardens for a week of concerts entitled “Under the influences of Coltrane”.
The calendar features predominantly the North American influences from New Orleans on this style of music. This event has been organised by the Gulbenkian Foundation since 1984, hosting around 180 quality and diverse concerts, featured in the best contemporary jazz publications. The “Jazz in August 2006” calendar features The Anthony Braxton Sextet, The Claudia Quintet, Rova Orkestrova Electric Ascension, Craig Taborn's Junk Music, Corkestra, Nels Cline and Evan Parker, among others. The guest musicians cover nearly all the modern jazz styles, from “neofree” and “electrojazz" to "chamber jazz" and the so called "noise", to the delight of jazz connoisseurs and the surprise of more amateur jazz fans.
The program also includes a lecture by Evan Parker on Coltrane, one of the mythical figures of modern jazz who died in 1967 aged only 41. It will also feature a film with Coltrane, Miles Davis e Gil Evan, lent by the United States Congress Library.
