A young Portugal outfit performed heroics in Moscow at the weekend to successfully defend their FIRA European Sevens title.
Tomaz Morais' men overcame Russia 19-7 in a replay of last year's Cup final, having also got the better of the home side in the pool stages on day one.
The Cup triumph, and continued dominance on the European stage, is a further boost for Portugal, who seem likely to become the 12th core team to play in all eight events of the 2006/07 IRB Sevens World Series, which is set to start in December.
Portugal earlier beat Italy 22-0 to reach the final, while Russia proved too strong for top seeds France in their semi, out-scoring them five tries to two for a 29-14 win. Italy beat France 14-5 to take third place.
