Torres Vedras

The town, on the left bank of the River Sisandro, is well known for the Lines of Torres Vedras which, in 1810, played a decisive role in the defence of Lisbon against Napoleonic troops under the command of Marchal Massena. Nearby is the gothic convent of Varatojo with 18th century additions. In the town is the Castle and Sta. Maria do Castelo Church, 12th to 16th century. The S. Quintinho church 2 km. from Sobral do Monte Agraco has a Manueline portal and 16th century paintings by Gregorio Lopes.

Could you please let me know the best way to travel from Lisbon airport to Hotel Promar Porto Novo Hotelaria Lda Torres Vedras.

Hi Linda - As you will see the hotel is at Porto Novo beach. The following is taken from their web-site.

All the rooms offer a private bathroom, satelite TV, radio, direct telephone with a wonderful view over the sea. Situeted only 10m away from the beach, 2km from the Termal Spings of Vimeiro, 5km from Santa Cruz, 15km from the Torres Vedras.
Use the follwing instructions to get to Torres Vedras and from there head for Vimeiro and then Porto Novo
DIRECTIONS FOR COLLECTING HIRE CAR AT LISBON AND FOR ROUTE TO VILLAS
On completing paperwork at the car-hire desk at the airport proceed to the multi-storey car park.
Follow the exit signs to exit the car-park taking care to avoid other cars joining from right and left.
On exiting the car-park advance to the STOP sign where you have to turn right.
Follow the signs to PARTIDAS / DEPARTURES which take you up a ramp alongside the car-park. At the top turn right and first right again which takes you over a bridge and down a ramp – follow the signs for OUTRAS DIRECÇÕES down to a roundabout. Proceed straight through the roundabout – move into the left hand lane to the traffic lights under the flyover following the signs for A1 NORTE to the left.
Stay on this road for the next 3km. to Junction 14 signposted A17 Cril,Ponte Vasco Da Gama & Outros destinos (Vasco Da Gama Bridge and other directions) Leave the A1 at this junction and follow the signs to the left for A17 Cril and other directions.(do not take the right hand lane which will take you south over the new Lisbon bridge) Stay on this road for approximately 3 1/2 km and just after the tunnel take the right hand exit lane at the sign for the A8 Loures and Torres Vedras.Please note - It is obligatory to use dipped headlights in the tunnel. (take care when joining the A8 that you stay on the left hand side of the road as at this junction of the A8, just as you reach the bottom of the hill there is a road which takes you off the motorway to the right.) At the first toll press the button and take a ticket.(Do not go through the lane marked Via Verde this is for suscribers only and you will pay a heavy fine if you do not use the correct lanes.) Retain this ticket until you pass through the second toll. Hand in the ticket and the money to be paid will be displayed on the screen.
Leave at the exit for Torres Vedras.

this ie my city i go evrey year for vacatian i spend a 30 days i love torres vedras!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
