Mediaeval Fair and Market - Obidos
From the 13th to the 23rd of July 2006.
The Medieval Fair of Óbidos will be throughout the streets, courtyards and alleys of the historic town. The rows of market stalls, with items made in the spirit of the Middle Ages, will create the real feeling of a fair. Along with the public, over a hundred actors, numerous musicians, dancers, beggars, victims of the plague and other performers will liven up the market spirit. Outdoor reenactments performed amidst the public bring to the stage noblemen and peasants, clergymen, merchants, artisans and jesters. The displays by master craftsmen and apprentices, will provide an insight into medieval handicrafts. Also local traditional food will be served in a true medieval atmosphere.
The Medieval Fair of Óbidos this year has the theme of a royal visit and will include horse tournaments, processions, concerts, plays, medieval banquets, court scenes, falconry exhibitions, etc.

Comments
Have just visited Obidos and spent twenty minutes in the square drinking excellent inexpensive coffee and almost overwhelmed by the beauty of the place. The bougaenvillea and other trees and plants set amidst the stunning medieval architecture are a photographer's dream.
This should be one of those must-visit places on the tourists' agenda.
There is so much to see on the Silver Coast you really need to live there to appreciate it all.
