New Road makes getting to Praia D'el Rey easier.
The picture above is from an article entitled "IP6 concluído a partir 16 de Junho" at Gazeta das Caldas - Online, which appeared on the front page of the newspaper on 9th June 2006.
The article explains that at long last the summer traffic queue problems around A Da Gorda should be eased with the completion of the IP6 linking Peniche to the A8 motorway on June 16th 2006.
It seems that to get from Caldas to Peniche should now take little more than 15 minutes, and the time from Caldas to Praia D'el Rey should be similarly reduced. This also brings the golf resort within much easier driving time from Lisbon, and will no doubt be welcomed by all those who have invested in property on the resort.

It is worth noting that the road, although seemingly completed, is awaiting its inauguration, presumably when this can be fitted into the Minister of Transport's busy schedule - ie you can't use it yet!
Watch this space.

That is very strange. The Gazeta last Friday (23rd June) reported on the front page that it will "be inaugaurated today" - presumably they expected the Minister last Friday.
You would have thought that by now the politicians would have learnt how unpopular it makes them to leave the roads finished but deny us access to them.
It certainly made me angry yesterday when I had to drive on past the exit because it was closed!

I can confirm that the road has opened today, 28th of June. It is not a motorway although it looks like one and and has a speed limit of 100Kph for much of it. Still, a big improvement on the Óbidos / Olho Marinho / Amoreira route. Foz do Arelho to Serra d'el Rei is now a comfortable 20 minutes
